Project 4: "Floor The Love -Battles"

                  competition

After a year away from Singapore, Korea Singapore Dance Project is back for 2007 with Project 4!

Man, it feels good because this time, I am actually going to BE IN SINGAPORE for it! And this Project is going to be the jam~

I wanted to make a dance event in Singapore that wasn’t a showcase competition because there are soooo many around already. Wanted to push for something new.

‘Battle Competitions’ are where 2 teams or 2 solo dancers take equal rounds on stage (or in a circle ^^ )  to compete to see who has the best flava. It is the usual format for Streetdance Competitions around the world and you probably already know of many such as Just Debout in France, Dance Delight in Japan and the bboy  Freestyle Session jam in the US

Well, I’m happy to announce I think is the first Battle Format competition in Sg in Project 4…. ‘Floor The Love-Battles!’

Check out the poster….^^

I made it myself. Very proud.

The best choreography and routines rarely win a battle format competition, simply because the judges are looking for the people who dance to the music the best in their sets.

If a person does a pre-planned routine, then the likelihood of that routine exactly matching the song that is being played is pretty small. It won’t score high.

But if someone freestyles to the music and in doing so, can create dance spontaneously in improvisation, and with real flow and technique, then that scores high. Example, this video, which has P-Lock (France) and Khan (Korea) in a Locking Battle in Europe.

So I hope that you all come and enter in Floor The Love-Battles, especially people who have been dancing for more than a year…..its time to push yourself to see how wide your dance vocabulary can be in matching the music.

To enter Floor The Love, go to the website http://floorthelove.blogspot.com and leave a comment on the blog. State the category you want to enter in (Popping, Locking or Hip Hop) , who your team members are and what your team name is.

Also….we are having Street Dance Workshops after the event as well! Click on the posters to enlarge them.
